Museum Talk: Scouting: Caught Between the Country and the City. Historian and history professor emeritus Kurt Leichtle discusses the founding of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and places those origins into the context of American culture and history. That context creates a tension between urban growth and the desire to retain rural, frontier heritage. 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. Free to museum members and $10 per person for non members. Gallery Talk Attend our new series, "Gallery Talk, on Saturday, March 4, 2:00 pm, in The Founders Hall at the Museum. The topic will be, "When Regions were Councils: Charles Sommers and the Development of Boy Scouts n the Upper Midwest." Cost: Free for Members; $10 for non-members. March 18 Call to History Similar to PBS’s Antiques Road Show, we bring out an interesting item and an expert talks about its history and significance. The 2023 Call to History Program will feature campfire songbooks, drum and bugle corps competition and the 1937 National Scout Jamboree. April 2023April 22

Order of the Odor Reunion Have you been affiliated with Scouting USA, Girl Scouts of the USA, or the North Star Museum at least 15 years, and are a current member of the Museum. You are a Skunk! The event is being held at Swanson Lodge at Fred C. Andersen Scout Camp, Houlton, WI. Check in begins at 11:00 am, program at 11:30 am, and lunch. Register no later than April 28 by mailing in your form with your $15 check or register and pay here. May 18 Volunteer Recognition and Annual Meeting Join us at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum to recognize our hard working volunteers and give a review of our 2022 successes. Also, be the first to see the new Homefront exhibit focusing on Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting activities spanning the timeframe of WWI and WWII. Free event. Register online. Closed for 4th of July Holiday Weekend Will reopen for regular hours Wednesday, July 5. July 6 Cast Iron and Box Oven Cooking 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Are you afraid to use a Dutch oven? Ever cooked in a cardboard box? Don't know how to clean and care for it? Come learn some tricks on cooking and sample some delicious food made in each of these. Cost includes admission: $12 Members; $15 Non-members. Register by July 3. July 20 Dreaming about Your Pinewood Derby Car? 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Whether you are planning to race in our adult derby in November or preparing your Scout/Girl Scout for their event this winter, come learn how to best make your car the fastest and best looking on the track. Rockets, Rockets 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Come make a rocket a water bottle and then launch it in the parking lot. All ages welcome. Cost includes admission: $12 Members; $15 Non-members. Museum Closed for Labor Day Weekend Will reopen for regular hours Wednesday, September 6. September 21 Building Your Pinewood Derby Car 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Come and actually cut out your car from a pre-made kit. You design it, cut it out and paint it that evening. You will also weigh it according to specifications of the race. Cost is $20 which includes admission and all supplies to make your car the winner. Register by September 15. October 2023Coming Soon
