North Star Scouting Memorabilia, Inc. is a Minnesota Nonprofit Corporation and a Federal 501(c)(3) organization.

Volunteer Opportunities

Storage and preservation are currently combined in warehouse space graciously donated by 3M.  We've now aquired our own museum space, which will allow us to:

·        showcase more items for public viewing
·        develop hands-on exhibits
·        catalog and store additional items

You can help prepare displays for the outreach program, catalog artifacts, or preserve important pieces in our collection. Volunteering is a great way to support your community - whether it's once a week or once a year.

The following are just some of the volunteer opportunities at North Star Scouting Museum of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting.

Committee Member:  Serve on one of the museum's operating committees, including facilities, development, membership, education and outreach, program, preservation, and volunteer involvement.

Data Entry Assistant:  Enter acknowledgements of donations or membership information into a non-threatening computer database.  Training provided.

Exhibit Builder:  Assist in building and maintaining permanent and temporary displays.

Exhibit Transporter/Interpreter:  Provide transportation of exhibits to various special engagements through out the year.  Assist with the set up and take down of exhibits at the site.  Act as the ambassador and exhibits interpreter at of-site exhibit engagements such as Courts of Honor, Blue and Gold banquets, district dinners, and other special events.  You'll interact with the public and sharing Scouting history, museum information, and discussing the contents of the particular exhibit on display.

Grant Writer:  Assist in writing formal proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations.

Graphic Designer:  Help prepare layout of the newsletter and other materials for publication.  Experience in graphic design required; design layout experience preferred.

Living History Interviewer:  Interview subjects about their experiences in Boy Scouting, Girl Scouting, or Girl Guiding. Various media can be used such as audiotaping, videotaping, transcribing via phone interview, etc.

Office Assistant:  Provide administrative support to the executive director.  Respond to individuals requesting to make memorabilia donations.  Coordinate bulk mailing projects (e.g., newsletter, fundraising, and membership campaigns).

Photographer:  Take pictures of volunteers in action at various museum activities and events.  Use your own digital camera or the museum‚s digital camera.

Writer:  Assist with writing feature articles for the museum newsletter.  Research topics, provide in-depth look at highlighted issues, companies, and volunteers.
