Program Developer
Volunteer Position Description
The Program Developer volunteers at the North Star Museum of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting facility located at 2640 E. Seventh Avenue in North St. Paul, Minnesota, during the usual work week. Some evening and weekend work may be required. The Program Developer works under the direct supervision of the Museum’s Executive Director. Occasionally, it will be necessary for the Program Developer to supervise other volunteers who might be assisting with a program.
Duties:
- Conceive and develop programs for the Museum
- Educational programs for adults and youth
- Classes
- Workshops
- Hands-on activities
- Film series
- Lectures
- Demonstrations
- Performance: music, storytelling, drama, dance
- Book group/book discussion
- Orienteering/neighborhood nature walks
- Field trips
- If the program will require additional volunteers, the Program Developer will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to secure these volunteers and train them, if necessary.
- Assist Executive Director in developing programs and writing grant proposals to provide funding for such programs.
- Assist Executive Director in promoting these programs in all media outlets, and through Boy Scout and Girl Scout information channels well in advance
- Assist Executive Director in managing programs, including set-up, take-down, introducing speakers, and other duties as assigned or apparent.
Standards:
- Program must have a title
- For all youth programs, Boy Scout and Girl Scout advancement or merit badge requirements must be identified and articulated.
- For all youth programs, age-appropriateness must be determined and articulated.
- Budget for program must be determined.
- Program developer must secure commitments from people outside the Museum for their participation. This commitment must be in writing, in a letter contract.
- Descriptive text for Museum calendar and other publicity must be produced.
- Space within Museum structure for program must be identified and reserved prior to the program.
- Identify whether program is designed to appeal specifically to Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or a general audience.
Commitment:
- The program developer must be willing to commit a minimum of 8 hours per week.
