BuglerA Call to History!

As the sun rises on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, Will Sulzbach’s bugle call heralds a new arrival—the first ever “A Call to History” breakfast at the North Star Museum. Please join us for this free event. We are planning a dynamic program. Engaging speakers and a wonderful video will inspire and delight guests as we invite folks to become a part of our new Giving Society (to be revealed at the event).

Why “A Call to History”? Because of you! The North Star Museum has had thousands of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts come through its doors. History tours, service projects, Courts of Honor, Ceremonies, Merit Badge Workshops, just to name a few. Thanks to our robust programs for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, we are on the radar of more Scouting families than ever before. It is our honor to preserve and showcase YOUR personal Scouting history, and what a thrill it is for us to inspire younger Scouts to “bridge the generations” and get them talking to parents and grandparents about their Scouting stories. It’s all about family, traditions, and values. That’s the North Star Museum of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting. That is why we are here.

“A Call to History” will provide a great opportunity those unfamiliar with the Museum to learn more about us, and for current supporters to be re-inspired. “A Call to History” takes place at the North Star Museum and begins with registration at 7:00 a.m., followed by the program at 7:30 a.m. Please plan on attending. We would be delighted if you could bring a guest. Here's a Save the Date card to forward. To find out more or to register, contact Shirley De la Torre at sdelatorre@nssm.org.

Supporting "A Century of Cheerful Service"

The museum is conducting a Crowdfunding campaign in support of its Order of the Arrow Centennial Exhibit, "Firm Bound in Brotherhood: A Century of Cheerful Service." The campaign runs until May 10. In addition to the satisfaction of supporting such a worthy endeavor, we are also offering some perks to contributors. Check out our campaign here.

This exhibit of the service arm of the Boy Scouts of America will be open to the public in late summer. A contribution to the exhibit ensures you will get a special invitation to the grand opening celebration, and a sneak peek before the general public. Images of the patch perks can be seen on the fundraising page in the Gallery of images. The campaign only runs three weeks, please make a contribution today.

S'mores with Juliette

A quarterly celebration of Girl Scout sisterhood, S'mores with Juliette is an event where Girl Scouts gather at the museum for skills, crafts and fun! "Juliette" herself is not present but her spirit of adventure sure is! Below are the dates for this beloved event for 2015. Attend one or attend them all, each S'mores with Juliette event is themed for a specific activity and treat. (It's not always "s'mores.")

- May 1: S'mores - Pie Iron gourmet - It's not just about the bread and pie filling anymore

- August 7: S'mores - Sing along the Girl Scout way - with s'mores

- October 30: S'mores - Juliette's Birthday party - Victorian parlor games and birthday cake!

Cost is $6 per person and you must RSVP to Stephanie Weiger at sweiger@nssm.org.

Come join the fun - as a troop or as a family - all are welcome!

Who Will Be the Next Skunk of the Year?

Help determine who will be chosen as the next Order of the Odor Skunk of the Year. The average web visitor may not know this, but it is one of the highest honors a veteran Scouter or Museum member can be awarded. Persons presented this award must be affiliated with Boy Scouting or Girl Scouting or the North Star Museum for at least 15 members, and be a current member of the Museum. In addition, this person will have made a significant contribution to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or North Star Museum.

If you would like to nominate the next Skunk of the Year, please fill out this nomination form and return it to the Museum by May 1. The next Skunk of the Year will be announced at the Veteran Scouters Reunion on Saturday, June 6, at Fred C. Andersen Scout Camp. Details on how to sign up to attend the reunion will be announced soon. Please check back!

Club Bruce

“Club Bruce,” our NEW Jr. Museum Membership for kids is a big hit! Any child up to 11 years old can join, and it's just $35 a year.

Kids love the Bruce the Moose Adventure Pack with a reflective backpack, water bottle, moose plush, and compass/whistle/flashlight!

Parents love the membership benefits like discounts on merchandise in the gift shop, discounts on programs and meetings, and invitations to members only events!

BOTH kids and parents will love the quarterly newsletter, “Moose News”, that goes out to all Club Bruce members with information about moose and other Minnesota wildlife, the environment, events at the museum, milestones in Scouting history, etc. Click here to see the Spring issue.

And here’s something REALLY COOL. We are sharing a percentage of the proceeds from all Club Bruce memberships with the Moose Research Project of the Minnesota DNR. This is a team of researchers committed to saving our Minnesota moose and trying to discover why the Minnesota populations of moose are dropping.

Club Bruce is a great educational tool for parents, teachers and Scout leaders, and also makes a wonderful gift for that special kid or little Boy Scout or Girl Scout!

Be a part of the adventure! Join Club Bruce TODAY! Contact Shirley (Bruce’s assistant!) at sdelatorre@nssm.org
