On Saturday, Nov 16, North Star Museum welcomed Brownies from Troop 55130 to its first “Overnight at the Museum” Camping Adventure!
The Brownies and their leaders enjoyed an evening jam packed with activities like shadow puppets, making Club Bruce buttons to wear, decorating their stash bags, songs round the campfire, Pinewood Derby racing, s’mores and a movie. Then everyone bedded down in their sleeping bags in the gallery and fell asleep to the recorded sounds of a crackling fire and chirping crickets! Just like camping outside! The next morning campers awoke to more crafts: making a camp-in journal, making an animal tracks book – and then searching for animal tracks hidden around the gallery – and finally having pancakes and juice (and lots of coffee for the grown-ups!).
We don’t know who had more fun: the girls or the grown-ups!
This was a pilot event trial and we are compiling a list of troops and packs interested in having an overnight campout at the museum in 2014. If you are interested in being put on this list, contact Shirley at email@example.com.
November 14, 2013 was “Give to the Max Day” -- a day where thousands of Minnesotans give to their favorite charities! The North Star Museum was the grateful recipient of over $2, 500 this year! (compared to last year's $1,500). While there were some challenges with Razoo and the GiveMN site being shut down for several hours, North Star Museum managed to keep the momentum going with hourly contests on our Facebook page and giveaways of our Bruce the Moose plush toy! (Congrats to Scouter – and Pinewood Derby expert – Warren Kalsow for winning a Bruce the Moose plush!)
All in all, it was a great day and we are so thankful to everyone who stayed with us and showed their support!
You don't have to wait until next year to give to the Museum. Join other like-minded individuals who believe in our mission. Become a sustainer by giving as little as $10 per month. You can set it up your sustaining membership, or give a child a yearly membership to Club Bruce ($35). It's easy as indicating Club Bruce and the child's name and contact information in the designation area. Click here to go to the Museum page on the GiveMN.org website.
“Club Bruce,” our NEW Jr. Museum Membership for kids is a big hit! Any child up to 11 years old can join, and it's just $35 a year.
Kids love the Bruce the Moose Adventure Pack with a reflective backpack, water bottle, moose plush, and compass/whistle/flashlight!
Parents love the membership benefits like discounts on merchandise in the gift shop, discounts on programs and meetings, and invitations to members only events!
BOTH kids and parents will love the quarterly newsletter, “Moose News”, that goes out to all Club Bruce members with information about moose and other Minnesota wildlife, the environment, events at the museum, milestones in Scouting history, etc.
And here’s something REALLY COOL. We are sharing a percentage of the proceeds from all Club Bruce memberships with the Moose Research Project of the Minnesota DNR. This is a team of researchers committed to saving our Minnesota moose and trying to discover why the Minnesota populations of moose are dropping.
Club Bruce is a great educational tool for parents, teachers and Scout leaders, and also makes a wonderful gift for that special kid or little Boy Scout or Girl Scout!
