North Star Museum Exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair
For over twenty years, North Star Scouting has exhibited part of its collection at the Minnesota State Fair. This year we again filled a twenty-foot booth. The exhibit included both historical and contemporary Scouting materials. Our volunteer staff, both Museum members and currently registered Scouters, not only explained the exhibits, but also answered questions about all of the Scouting programs and how to join them. Visitors to the booth come from as far away as Latvia, Brazil and Nigeria. The majority of the visitors were of course from Minnesota and the surrounding states. In the last three years, we have provided information on how to join Scouts to poeple from as far away as California, Washington and Missouri. Visitors of all ages stop by our exhibit. The booth, a cooperative effort between North Star and the Central Region of the Boy Scouts of America (coordinated through the Indianhead Council), was staffed by 90 volunteers for twelve hours a day for the twelve days of the fair. A thousand people signed our guest books. It is estimated that over 350,000 people passed through the Education Building where the exhibit is located. Twice in the past five years, North Star Scouting has been recognized as one of the top exhibitors in the building.
