Volunteer Position Description - Collections Assistants

The Collections Assistants volunteer at the North Star Museum of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting facility located at 2640 E. Seventh Avenue in North St. Paul, Minnesota, time to be determined. The Collections Assistants work under the direction of the Executive Director of the Museum.
Duties:
Working in pairs, the collections assistants will:
- Examine each patch in the Museum's collection, gathering basic documentation about each, and filling out an inventory sheet for each
- Assign either an accession number or an inventory number to each patch
- Prepare a cloth tag with the accession or inventory number clearly written on it
- Sew cloth tag on to the patch
- Place the patch in a plastic envelope and file it in a file box
Standards
- Using standard resources, all information shall be correct (no guessing)
- Patches shall be handled carefully, in accordance with museum standards
- Cloth tags shall be legibly written
- Patches shall be filed in numerical order
- Attention to detail
Commitment
- These positions are in support of a grant project: the volunteers should be willing to commit an average of 4 hours per week for 50 weeks over the next year. The project ends on December 31, 2006
